A disciple of Rudolf Bonnet and a part of Golongan Pelukis Ubudassociation, Ida Bagus Rai who was born in 1933 also learnt painting from I Dewa Ketut Rungun. Consistent with wayang as his playground of expression, one of his best traits is that he gives more human-like forms to mythological figures.
Ida Bagus Rai’s paintings are collected both in Bali and overseas. Museum Puri Lukisan – Ubud, Neka Museum – Ubud, Arma Museum -Ubud, Tropenmuseum in Amsterdam are among the high profile museums which owned his paintings. He has also exhibited his works overseas, such as: East West Center (Honolulu, Hawaii, 1998) and Singapore Art Museum (1994)
